Yanna, or board the yacht for some shut-eye, orientation and tackle
preparation as the boat travels to the fishing destination. Our office

| Yanna fishing Season |
October through March, timed to coincide with the dry season both north
and south of the equator. The Brazilian Amazon offers two distinct
fishing seasons, coinciding with the dry seasons north and south
of the equator. On the Rio Negro and its tributares north of Manaus,
prime time is between December and April. From August through November,
the Yanna heads south to the Rio Madeira and its tributaries. Despite
our best efforts to schedule anglers during optimal fishing conditions,
unexpected "dry season" rains can play havoc with the fishery.

Language Spoken on the Yanna |
Portuguese is the official language of Brazil. Some of the guides
can converse in Spanish and know a few basic English words, especially
as they pertain to fishing. It is wise to learn a few Spanish phrases before undertaking a trip of this nature. Anglers booking
this trip will be sent a Field Guide, which will contain a basic
English-Spanish translator. An English-speaking host will always
be on board the Yanna.
|
| Accommodations
aboard the Yanna |
The Yanna offers eight air-conditioned bedrooms, each with private
shower and bathroom. These rooms are small, however with the limited
time you will be actually spend in these rooms, this does not pose
a problem. The rooms are immaculately clean and are as roomy as any
house boat fishing operation in the Amazon. The second deck houses
the dining and bar areas, where you will enjoy excellent meals. The
top deck is an observatory for unwinding after a long day on the
water. Two anglers share a room.
|
| The
Meals Aboard the Yanna |
The cook prepares a variety of dishes, ranging from fish to steak and
pasta. Fresh baked breads are available daily. Breakfasts consists
of eggs, pancakes and cereal, in addition to an assortment of fresh
fruits and juices. Box lunches are served on the water so as to not
cut into valuable fishing time. Dinner offers a sampling of local
Brazilian dishes, interspersed with more traditional American meals.
Wine is served with dinner. The Yanna offers an open bar with local
beverages.
|
| Fishing
aboard the Amazon Yanna |
Keep in mind that, for the most part, this is a trophy fishery and
visiting anglers usually come prepared with heavy tackle and large
lures and flies to battle the trophy
peacocks. Anglers are paired
two to a boat with an experienced Brazilian guide. You will fish
from American made bass boats. The boats have fuel-efficient, quite
four-stroke outboards, trolling motors, swivel seats and coolers.
Most of the fishing will take place in lagoons and backwater bays
off the Rio Negro and Rio Madeira, but main river structures can
also yield trophy-class fish. One of the most exciting aspects of
fishing for peacock bass is their propensity for attacking surface
lures. Peacock bass fishing is very similar to largemouth bass fishing
in the states. Both species ambush prey from cover and structure.
Cast topwater plugs, jerkbaits, flies or jigs to stumps, shoreline
blowdowns, rockpiles, lagoons, creek mouths and sandbars.
If you desire to fly fish, the most successful flies are larger
profiled patterns - all tied on 3-0 and 4-0 quality saltwater hooks
- such as Dahlberg-style divers, large profiles baitfish
patterns, High-Tie, Clouser minnows or variations of Lefty's
Deceivers. These
should be tied in a diversity of colors. You will be sent a detailed
packing list, as well as an updated version of our “A Field
Guide to the Peacock Bass” text.

| Activities
for the Non-Angler Aboard the Yanna |
Although this operation is geared first, and foremost, to the peacock
bass angler, the vast Amazon watershed offers a variety of unique
ecotour options for the non-angling guest. Non-angling guests can
pair up with Yanna guide, in many cases an English speaking guide,
and be taken to local Indian villages, as well as view the many types
of plants, birds and animals unique to the Amazon.
|
| Weather
Conditions in the Amazon Aboard the Yanna |
Temperatures typically range from 75 at night to as much as 95 degrees
during the day. Anglers should be prepared to fish under the equatorial
sun and consider long sleeve shirts and pants made of a tropical
weight material. Wide brim hats are also beneficial. The use of sunscreen
and lip balm is an absolute necessity. Although we fish during the
dry season, downpours do occur, so don’t forget to pack a lightweight
rainsuit.

Cancellation and Travel Insurance Recommendation |
A fishing expedition will
certainly offer you an exciting and rewarding experience. Unfortunately,
however, one undertaking such an angling adventure must face the possibility
that you or your fishing companion might be forced to cancel your trip
at the last moment due to illness, injury or other emergency or sustain
an unfortunate injury and require medical services or worse, medical
evacuation during your trip. Trip cancellation and travel insurance
can help protect you and your travel companions from these unforeseen
and unfortunate circumstances. We will send you the application forms
from Travelex, a major, reliable insurer of traveling anglers. Typically,
the cost of an extensive program is less than $65 per $1,000 of coverage.
