Araca CampThe Aracá Camp is a new concept of jungle lodge in Brazil. The camp is formed of six comfortable and charming African safari-style tents for a total of twelve people and allows an intimate interaction with the spectacular Amazon rainforest of the Aracá river, in the Rio Negro Basin. With its dark waters, unforgettable white sand beaches and many lakes, the Aracá river is the habitat of the most aggressive predator fish of the Amazon: the Speckled Peacock Bass. This is the biggest of all varieties of peacock basses, known in the region as "Tucunaré Açu". Besides the Speckled, many others like the Butterfly and the "Paca" will attack your lures aggressively, biting and struggling as though they haven't eaten for weeks. Be prepared to lose a few lures to these feisty fighters. It is without any doubt one of the best fishing experiences on the planet!

At the Araca river's source, a few hours by boat from the Camp, lie the mighty Aracá Mountains, on a beautiful plateau with an unique and rich ecosystem. This is where the highest water falls in Brazil are located. Managed by Eduardo Prada, an expert in natural beauties of Brazil ,and his wife Dominique, who has more than 10 years experience in some of the best hotels of the world, the Aracá Camp team is made up of locals with knowledge of many of the forest's secrets. 10 years experience in some of the best hotels.

Fishing at Aracá Camp Sportfishing Adventures

Araca Camp Bass BoatYou will primarily be fishing a multitude of hidden lagoons off the Aracá and Demeni rivers and their tributaries. The typical fishing day runs from 6:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Anglers are paired two to a boat with an experienced Brazilian guide. You will be fishing out of Bass Tracker 185 ProTeam boats, equipped with engines 90 HP, depth finder, electric trolling motors, radio for communication with the base and/or other boats, swivel fishing seats, life-jackets and first-aid kit.

Trophy Peacock BassOne of the most appealing and exciting aspects of fishing for peacock bass is their propensity for attacking surface lures and flies. The strike is so dramatic that you will be startled when the first few occur. Peacock bass fishing is very similar to largemouth bass fishing in the states. Both species ambush prey from cover and structure. Cast topwater plugs, jerkbaits, spoons or jigs to stumps, shoreline blowdowns, rockpiles, creek mouths and sandbars.

If you desire to fly fish, the most successful flies are larger profiled patterns - all tied on 2-0 to 4-0 quality saltwater hooks - such as Dahlberg-style divers, large profile baitfish patterns, High-Tie or variations of Lefty's Deceivers & Clouser Minnows. These should be tied in a diversity of colors. This region is most productive following the rainy season, as the rivers, creeks and lagoons recede and the fish are drawn out of the maze of trees, root systems and lush vegetation. Keep in mind that the productiveness of your peacock bass adventure is largely dictated by the water levels, and occasionally the rainy season fails to abide by schedules and may add mid-season downpours.
