The Aracá Camp is
a new concept of jungle lodge in Brazil. The camp
is formed of six comfortable and charming African safari-style
tents for a total
of twelve people and allows an intimate interaction with the spectacular
Amazon rainforest of the Aracá river,
in the Rio
Negro Basin.
With its dark waters, unforgettable white sand beaches and many lakes,
the Aracá river is the habitat of the most
aggressive predator fish of the Amazon: the Speckled
Peacock Bass. This is the biggest
of all varieties of peacock basses, known in the
region as "Tucunaré Açu".
Besides the Speckled, many others like the Butterfly and
the "Paca" will
attack your lures aggressively, biting and struggling as though they
haven't eaten for weeks. Be prepared to lose a few lures to these
feisty fighters. It is without any doubt one of the best fishing
experiences on the planet!
At the Araca river's source, a few hours
by boat from the Camp, lie the mighty Aracá Mountains,
on a beautiful plateau with an unique and rich ecosystem. This
is
where the highest water falls in Brazil are located.
Managed by
Eduardo
Prada, an expert in natural beauties of Brazil ,and
his wife Dominique, who has more than 10 years
experience in some of the best hotels
of the world, the Aracá Camp team is made
up of locals with knowledge of many of the forest's secrets. 10
years experience
in some of the best hotels.

Language Spoken at Aracá Camp Sportfishing Adventures |
Portuguese is the official language of Brazil. Some of the guides can
converse in Spanish and know a few basic English words, especially
as they pertain to fishing. It is wise to learn a few Portuguese or
Spanish phrases before undertaking a trip of this nature. If you are
fairly fluent in Spanish, you will have no difficulty communicating
with your guide. Anglers booking this trip will be sent a 56-page Field
Guide, which will contain a basic English-Spanish-Portuguese translator.
An English-speaking host will always be on the premises at this camp.
The guides are all willing to please and the language barrier is quickly
overcome. During the season, an English speaking host is resident.

| Fishing
at Aracá Camp Sportfishing Adventures |
You will primarily be fishing a multitude of hidden lagoons off the
Aracá and Demeni rivers and their tributaries. The typical fishing
day runs from 6:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Anglers are paired two to a
boat with an experienced Brazilian guide. You will be fishing out of
Bass Tracker 185 ProTeam boats, equipped with engines
90 HP, depth finder, electric trolling motors, radio for communication
with the
base and/or other boats, swivel
fishing seats, life-jackets and first-aid kit.
One of the most appealing and exciting aspects of fishing for peacock
bass is their propensity for attacking surface lures and flies. The
strike is so dramatic
that you will be startled when the first few occur. Peacock bass fishing
is very similar to largemouth bass fishing in the states. Both species
ambush prey from
cover and structure. Cast topwater plugs, jerkbaits, spoons or jigs to stumps,
shoreline blowdowns, rockpiles, creek mouths and sandbars.
If you desire
to fly fish, the most successful flies
are larger profiled patterns - all tied on 2-0 to 4-0 quality saltwater
hooks - such as Dahlberg-style divers, large
profile baitfish patterns, High-Tie or variations of Lefty's
Deceivers & Clouser Minnows. These should be tied
in a diversity of colors. This region is most productive following the rainy
season,
as the rivers, creeks and lagoons recede and the fish are drawn out of the
maze of trees, root systems and lush vegetation. Keep in mind that the productiveness
of your peacock bass adventure is largely dictated by the water levels, and
occasionally
the rainy season fails to abide by schedules and may add mid-season downpours.

| Activities
for the Non-Angler at Aracá Camp Sportfishing Adventures |
Although this operation is considered primarily a fishing facility,
catering to anglers from throughout the world, it would be suitable
if two anglers brought non-angling spouses or friends. The two non-anglers
could be paired with a guide and explore the wildlife, jungle and plant
life of the Amazon, as well as visit residents of the three close communities
of river people or Caboclos.
|
| Weather
at Aracá Camp Sportfishing Adventures |
The Aracá Camp operation is located in the Amazonas region of
Brazil and the weather at each is typically hot and
humid, with temperatures ranging from 75 degrees overnight and in the
early morning hours to
the mid-nineties during the day. It is advised that visiting anglers
consider long sleeve tropical weight shirts and long tropical weight
pants to keep you protected from the equatorial sun's powerful rays.
A wide brim hat is
also recommended, as is a quality sunscreen and lip balm in the 30
to 45 SPF range. Even though we schedule your trip during the Brazilian dry season, showers and storms can occur, so please pack a rain suit
as the temperatures drop during these periods of rain.

Cancellation and Travel Insurance Recommendation |
A fishing expedition will
certainly offer you an exciting and rewarding experience. Unfortunately,
however, one undertaking such an angling adventure must face the possibility
that you or your fishing companion might be forced to cancel your trip
at the last moment due to illness, injury or other emergency or sustain
an unfortunate injury and require medical services or worse, medical
evacuation during your trip. Trip cancellation/
travel insurance can help protect you and your travel companions from
these unforeseen and unfortunate circumstances. We will send you the
application forms from Travelex a major reliable insurer of traveling
anglers. Typically, the cost of an extensive program is less than $65
per $1,000 of coverage. It is wise to always consult with your personal
health insurance provider before undertaking any type of travel to
determine what is covered in the event of injury or illness during
your travels.
